Alaska Baby Abandoned with Heartfelt Note From His Mother

An Alaska baby was shockingly found abandoned after a woman noticed a cardboard box sitting near a row of mailboxes. She walked over thinking it was nothing… and then her heart basically dropped. Inside that box was a newborn. And next to him was a heartbreaking note from a desperate mom who felt she had no other choice.

Roxy Lane, who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, spotted the box outside her place on a freezing Friday afternoon. We’re talking temps in the single digits with a wind chill around 12 below. Brutal. Still, something made her check it out, according to the NY Post. When she opened it, she saw something she honestly couldn’t believe. She even pulled out her phone because the moment was just unreal.

Inside the box was a tiny newborn baby. Wrapped in blankets. Making soft little cooing sounds, as the Daily Mail reported. And right beside him was a note that pretty much shattered her.

The letter started with, “Please help me!!!”
The mom explained she gave birth 12 weeks early. She was only 28 weeks pregnant when she left the baby there. She said neither she nor the baby’s grandparents had money, food, or any way to care for him. It was a desperate situation many struggling families face, especially without financial assistance programs, healthcare support, or child welfare services. The baby’s name, she wrote, was Teshawn.

The note went on:
“My parents and grandparents don’t have food or money to raise me. They NEVER wanted to do this to me. My mom is so sad to do this. Please take me and find me a LOVING FAMILY. My parents are begging whoever finds me. My name is Teshawn.”

After Roxy posted the video on social media, Alaska State Troopers got involved right away. They responded to the report of the abandoned newborn and had EMS take little Teshawn to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, doctors said he was in good health — which honestly feels like a miracle considering the freezing weather.

Stories like this hit hard. They remind us how important access to family support services, emergency medical help, adoption resources, and mental health support for parents really is. No mom should ever feel like abandonment is her only option.

“AST in Fairbanks got a report about a newborn found inside a cardboard box near Dolphin Way and Chena Point Avenue,” the statement said. “The baby was alive and looked like he had been left there recently. A note said the parent couldn’t take care of him. EMS took the child to a local hospital, and doctors said he was in good health.”

For Roxy Lane, the whole thing was emotionally heavy. She said she spent the whole day trying to process it with her boyfriend and her family. On Facebook she wrote, “I’ve been running through so many scenarios in my head as to why something like this happened.”
Then she added something important: “There’s always a safer, humane choice to surrender a baby. You won’t get in trouble. You don’t have to answer hard questions. Take the baby to a fire station, a church, a hospital — they’ll take care of them.”
This is exactly why Safe Haven laws exist, and why child protection services and family legal support matter so much for struggling parents.

Roxy also reminded people about Alaska’s Safe Haven Law from 2008, and she begged anyone who might know the mother to check on her. She wasn’t angry — she was empathetic. She talked about how the mom might be dealing with poverty, trauma, zero mental health support, or just overwhelming stress that pushes people into desperate choices. A lot of families face stuff like this without financial assistance, housing support, or mental health resources, and sometimes they break under it.

She talked about how their community is struggling and how this moment shows it. “Someone felt so lost and hopeless that they made probably the hardest choice of their life,” she wrote. “Leaving that baby on the side of the road with just some blankets and a name. But she named him! That means there was love there, even if the decision was terrible.”

Roxy ended with something that hits you right in the chest:
“I know we’re all struggling. I see it. I see you. I love you all and I’m here. Today I saved a baby, and I’ll probably think about Teshawn for the rest of my life.”
